Terms of use

Using the tool
Highlit Docs is free to use, for personal and commercial purposes alike, with no account and no usage limit. By using it you accept the terms on this page.
Your content stays yours
You retain all rights to any document you process. No licence over your content is claimed by this site, and your files are never transmitted to or stored by it. However, if you press Refine output with AI, the text extracted from your document is sent to Google’s Gemini API, where Google’s own terms apply. That step is optional and off until you press it. Do not use it on confidential material. See the privacy policy for specifics.
You are responsible for having the right to process the documents you open, and for complying with any confidentiality obligations that attach to them.
Provided as-is
The tool is provided without warranty of any kind. Code detection is heuristic: it will sometimes miss code and will sometimes mark text as code that is not. Known failure modes are documented on the limitations page.
Do not rely on the output as the sole basis for anything consequential without checking it. In particular, verify indentation-sensitive languages such as Python against the original before reusing extracted code.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for any loss or damage arising from use of this tool, including inaccurate detection, incorrect highlighting, data loss, or interruption of service. Your remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using it.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- attempt to disrupt or overload the site or its hosting;
- redistribute the site as your own product;
- use it to process material you do not have the right to process.
Availability
No uptime is guaranteed. The site may change, move, or be withdrawn at any time. Reading and highlighting happen on the server, so the tool needs a working connection to it; a page already loaded cannot process a document on its own. The AI review step additionally needs a working Gemini API quota and is skipped when that is missing.
Third-party components
PDF reading uses Mozilla's pdf.js, distributed under the Apache License 2.0. Its licence text is included with the bundled copy. Everything else is original to this project.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated; the date at the top of the page will change when they are. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
